NW Peaks Brewery

Currently, we are trying to release two beers a month for the mountainBeer program.  Here you can see the choices throughout the year and how they change with the seasons.  Hopefully, we will be bringing the most popular beers back into the brewery for walk-ins and for distribution to restaurants and bars.

January, 2012

Maude's mild Mt Maude is the 13th tallest peak in WA and helps comprise the cirque where the Entiat river starts its seaward journey.... Maude's mild is our interpretation of a winter session beer. Milds are, by definition, a lower strength beer and this one gets it's subtle warming from notes of dark fruits: prunes and raisins.

Esmeralda Ale The name. The mountain. Esmeralda is located in the Teanaway River drainage just S of Ingalls peak and SW of MT Stuart - one of our favorite areas.... While the mountain is great, this beers namesake comes from our tale of two experiences that parallel the brewery.... The Beer. Compared to Maude's mild, Esmeralda has a higher alcohol level... with some dark sugars allowing notes of molasses and dark sugar to complement the extra alcohol.

December, 2011

Picket Porter The name. The mountain (range). The rugged Picket Range is located in the North Cascades National Park and so named for its resemblance to a picket fence... The Beer. We attempted to make picket porter a perfect partner to the Snowfield winter: A very flavorful beer but yet easy drinking with a lower alcohol content. It is very drinkable and has a lower alcohol content that would be similar to the historical versions of the entires...

Snowfield Winter 2011 The name. The mountain. With a name like Snowfield, we couldn’t resist naming our winter beer after it. ...Washington’s 90th highest peak, it stands 6,500′ above the Pyramid Lake trailhead with multiple ‘ups and downs’ and glaciers en route... The Beer. This is our second season of the Snowfield. We made this year’s version based on previous batches, but changing things up to hit a new season. ... a slightly more bitter and hop forward beer that is nicely balanced by the chocolaty, sweet malt backbone and higher alcohol %.

November, 2011

Annapurna Black Ale The mountain. The N Cascades has its own version, Little Annapurna, named because of the similar appearance to its Himalayan counterpart. The Beer. We wanted to make a darker beer that had a lot of hop character blending the recent harvest with the upcoming winter. We'll call it a NW Black ale...

Spickard Spiced Ale The mountain. Spickard is juxtaposed to Mt Redoubt and is a great alpine destination, although accessibility is limited to put it mildly. The Beer. We went towards Thanksgiving spices. We started with a base that includes more than 25% maize... then added some spruce, rosemary, and thyme...

October, 2011

Phantom Fall and Cave Ridge: 2011 Fresh Hop Pales. As the weather turns (like it or not), in the mountains we turn to finding all of the finest powder and “freshies” we can.... Phantom falls and Cave ridge (Snoqualmie Mountain) is an ideal place. Phantom Falls belgo pale is a belgo style pale with fresh cascade hops. Cave ridge rye is a rye pale ale with simcoe fresh hops.

September, 2011

Agassiz Acai Mount Agassiz stands at the north end of the Palisades... Agassiz has a lot going on in its flavor profile. The acai fruit is at the forefront but is integrated...

Kaleetan Lemonweizzen Kaleetan is a peak close to snoqualmie pass.... We decided to make a wheat beer, but put the lemon in the beer for you. Kaleetan was then fermented with a Belgian Wheat yeast...

August, 2011

Kyes Kolsch The mountain. Kyes Peak is a lesser known peak located in the Monte Cristo group... The beer. Our interpretation is light, refreshing, and contains some fruity notes from the yeast fermentation on top of a very bready backbone.

Enchantment Ale, a saison The mountain. The enchantments are a string of alpine lakes just outside of Leavenworth.... The beer. Enchantment ale is a saison, a style that is categorized as a 'farmhouse ale....' but these styles also have a nice fruity notes (apple and pear), with a slight perception of sweetness...

June, 2011

Redoubt Red The mountain: Mt Redoubt is a fortress like massif almost as far north as you can go in the US... The Beer: This is a redo of the Redoubt Red brewed previously but not included in the mountainBeers. We added more hops, making it one of the hoppier beers we've put out to date...

Copper Bitter The mountain: This one gets its name from the mountain just off of copper ridge, rising up from copper lake. This is a great destination in itself (see pic of mountainBeer partner Redoubt) via the Hannagan pass and the copper ridge trail... The Beer: with the summer in mind, this brew has a malty backbone with a nice, subtle bitterness that slightly lingers and complements the malt...

May, 2011

Easton Blonde (Belgian) The name: This beer is named for our route up Mt Baker (the glacier). The Easton glacier sits on the S side of Mt Baker, and is one of the two most common routes up the volcano... The beer: Easton Blonde is a Belgian blonde. It has a slight sweetness to it, but is dominated by the peppery and phenolic notes that are typical of Belgian style yeasts ...

Ingalls Ginger The mountain: Ingalls is situated at the end of the Teanaway river road rising out of headlight basin just south of Mt. Stuart... The Beer. Ingalls ginger is a ginger ale, but not one for the kids. Ingalls features ginger flavor and aroma on top of a backbone that is best described as a pale...

April, 2011

Eldorado Pale Ale The mountain: Eldorado is a majestic mountain and is the 25th tallest peak in the state. It is situated close to Cascade pass, a very popular destination at the end of the Cascade River road... The Beer. We tried to make a pale ale with a light malt backbone and nice bitterness that would support and balance an unmistakably emphasized hop aroma and flavor...

Colonial Common The mountain: Colonial mountain is en route to Snowfield mountain (the namesake of our winter ale). It doesn't reach into the top 100 highest Washington peaks, but that doesn't detract from its beauty... The Beer. Our Colonial Common is brewed with 100% Northern Brewer Leaf hops for bittering, flavor, and aroma, but only to a moderate level ....

Mar, 2011

Red Alt The mountain. The namesake for this beer is at the end of Commonwealth basin near Snoqualmie pass.... The Beer. This red is an alt, a close cousin to the kolsch style. Red alt has a pretty red hue and is clean and very drinkable and is a good example of the style...

Lichtenberg dunkelweizen The mountain. Lichtenberg mountain is situated just off of the PCT overlooking Hwy 2 east of Steven's pass. Lichtenberg rises from the shores of Lake Valhalla, a deservedly popular day hike or snowshoe destination... The Beer. We brewed this German style with the typical amounts of wheat and munich malts, and added a little chocolate malt to give it some color and add some darker essence...

Feb, 2011

Sloan Stout The mountain. Sloan Peak is a prominent-looking mountain situated all by itself just off the mountain loop "highway". It's a great, distinctive mountain that appears to be falling over, depending on your vantage... The Beer. We used the same yeast used to make Guinness and tried to mimic the water profile of Dublin, Ireland to create our own interpretation of a dry stout, a style that Guinness has made ever so popular...

Stuart Stout The mountain. Mt Stuart is a massive mountain easily seen from the storied Enchantments, and from I90 ~13 miles SW from Leavenworth. It is the second tallest non-volcanic peak in WA... The Beer. Stuart Stout is a rich, full bodied, deeply roasty interpretation of the style. It has a lot of roasted malts giving it a great stout flavor...
